I like this kind of effect - black and white with a striking colour (usually red) in it. I used to paint quite a bit and tried to do something similar but it really works best when done as a photo.

Great drama in this B&W.
I like the Black sleeve, the black under the chin,
and the striking black around the eyes - nice balance of dramatic black.
The hair curled around the one hand is a great idea.
More impact with just the three finger nails showing.
Fantastic shot!!
